Monday Morning Recap Mon Feb 5 2007

Duke Analysis

A sunny and brisk start to the day here in Durham and we needed to see a little sunshine this morning. Hooray! But phew – it’s been a tough few days with another last possession loss piled on to the Blue Devils Sunday afternoon in Cameron. This time it was Florida State that battled back from a 17-point first half deficit and made the big plays down the stretch to secure the win. Making this one real painful at home is that we had the last shot at the bucket – two shots – but they just didn’t go in. Not meant to be.

As you would expect, Coach K eloquently addressed the team after the game, telling them that as hard as this loss was, they must move on to the next play, the next game. Win or lose – next play. And through this adversity in sport - the character of a champion and the growth required to becoming an adult will come through during these times. They need to keep working hard. It was a great life lesson from the locker room as he also reminded the kids of perspective – there is another day for this team – and that doesn’t always happen in real life.

Note from the Nut

Well the Northbrook jinx comtinues. Last time Duke missed NCAA tourney, kid from Northbrook on team was Chris Collins. 1995-6. Now they have John Scheyer also Nohbrook High. With a 5-4. ACC record and two likely losses to NC Duke will have to go 3-2 to end up at 8-8 in conf which probably will get them as 8 or 9 seed. That means no sweet 16. This year To do this they have to win both games and win on road against Clemson, BC or Md. Given way they played at home this year they may not win both home. One is against Md. Not sure who is other. Looks like they have good shot at not making tourney if they keep losing close ones like two this week, both of which they should have won
